Windrush Legacy Beneficiaries - Legacy

This project’s activities will celebrate Windrush history through:

  • Music
  • Supporting new start social enterprises
  • Educating wider communities
  • Understanding the Legacy

The proceeds will go towards the BBMC (Brent Black Music Cooperative). Throughout its 35 year history, there have only been 3 major Reggae icons who had NOT performed, rehearsed or recorded there, being Bob Marley, Jacob Miller or Peter Tosh because they had died prior to it being built. As an All in One Learning Centre local young people learn preparation for life skills and disciplines within the music and creative industries. It provides a central point for the community’s artistic and creative outputs, and gives excluded youths a chance to positively engage self-development activities.

WINDRUSH LEGACY 2098 will also support the work of Ultra Education and the Aleto Foundation who both deliver varied supportive initiatives that underpin the development of young people.

Ultra Education provides training and mentorship for young people to start their own businesses from their creative aspirations.

ALETO Foundation gives disadvantaged young people opportunities to develop leadership skills using placements with some of the UK’s largest blue chip companies

The lead organisation is the Society for the Advancement of Black Arts (SABA), established in 1999 as a UK registered charity. Our flagship project is called UK UNSIGNED and throughout this time it has provided a platform for the likes of

UK UNSIGNED continues to cover all musical genres from Rock to Rap to Reggae and through our Your Digital Network (YDN) community broadcast platform we help aspiring artists to grow their fan bases and enhance their industry connections.

Through our Hidden Creative Economy (HiCrEc) initiatives we also connect varied generations coming through the music and creative industries. The is a great opportunity for us to continue this exercise for current generations to understand where their art forms began.
